Celebrating Excellence in Mental Health Care: Dr. Melinda Nieman Honored by NAMI Butler County

On April 23rd, members of the Community Health Alliance team gathered for an evening that highlighted the very best of our field—dedication, compassion, and a shared commitment to strengthening mental health and recovery services across our community.

At the NAMI Butler County Annual Awards Dinner, Dr. Melinda Nieman, Medical Director and Psychiatrist at our Transitional Living (TLC), was recognized for excellence in clinical service.

Hosted each spring in partnership with the Butler County Mental Health & Addiction Recovery Services Board, the event honors providers, first responders, leaders, and innovators who are making a meaningful impact in mental health and addiction recovery. It’s a powerful reminder that progress in this space is driven by people—those who show up every day to care, to advocate, and to lead.

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), founded in 1979, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization. Its Butler County affiliate has served the region since 1992, providing education, support, and advocacy while working to break down stigma surrounding mental health. Their work continues to be a vital force for hope and connection in our community.

Dr. Nieman’s recognition reflects the impact she makes not only as a clinician, but as a leader within our organization and beyond.

As Amy Crouch, Executive Director, shared during the celebration: “Dr. Nieman sets a gold standard for dedication, respect, and teamwork within our treatment community. She is more than a psychiatrist—she is a leader, a mentor, and a true advocate for both her patients and the staff who support them. She is a shining example of what it means to serve with excellence, empathy, and integrity.”

Those words resonate deeply with anyone who has worked alongside Dr. Nieman or experienced her care firsthand. Her approach reflects what we strive for every day at Community Health Alliance: meeting people where they are, supporting the whole person, and building a true circle of support around each individual’s journey.

Dr. Nieman was joined at the event by members of our TLC team, who were proud to stand beside her in celebration:
(L/R) Anna Montgomery, Brittany Clayton, Amy Crouch, Tasha Schreiber, Dr. Melinda Nieman, Anita Noe, Heather Lawrence, and Angie Pearson.

Their presence reflects something important—this recognition is individual, but the work is collective. It takes a team committed to shared purpose to create meaningful change in people’s lives.

We extend our sincere gratitude to NAMI Butler County for their continued leadership and for recognizing those who are advancing mental health care in our region.

And to Dr. Nieman—congratulations. Your leadership, compassion, and dedication continue to strengthen not only our organization, but the entire community we serve.
