At Community Health Alliance, we believe in working hard to help people live healthier lives—but we also know the importance of keeping joy and laughter alive in the workplace. This week, our Symmes office had a surprise that no one (especially our CFO) saw coming.
On an otherwise ordinary Thursday morning, CFO Georgii Zhirkin walked into his office only to discover that it had been transformed into a sea of colorful plastic ducks. Just under 500 ducks in every shade imaginable had found their way into every nook and cranny. From window sills, to balanced on his computer, tucked into drawers, and even hiding in the exhaust vents in the ceiling—no surface was safe from this wave of featherless “friends.”
The mastermind behind the prank? Laura Klingenberg, Quality Improvement Manager. Known for her fondness of ducks—her own office is home to a collection of over 300 rubber ducks—Laura decided it was the perfect way to get back at a colleague who’s known for keeping the office lighthearted.
“I wanted to prank Yuri because he does a lot of joking around the office,” Laura said. “And ducks seemed like the obvious choice because of my collection! My goal was to have him finding hidden ducks in his office for months… we’ll see how long it goes on for. Some are hidden pretty well!”
To make sure the moment was preserved forever, a small GoPro camera was hidden in the corner of the room, capturing Georgii’s priceless reaction as he came face-to-face with his new flock of officemates.
At CHA, we know the work we do—caring for people, guiding them through recovery, and offering support—can be serious. But we also know that joy and connection are powerful medicine, too. Moments like these highlight our culture: one where creativity, laughter, and camaraderie balance out the challenges of our mission.
Whether you call it quackers, egg-cellent, or just plain fowl play, we’ll let you decide. One thing’s for certain—this prank ruffled some feathers in the best possible way.
