Innovation in Recovery: How Sojourner is Modernizing Group Therapy
In Patient Stories
Sojourner Recovery Services is bringing a fresh approach to group therapy by introducing tablet-based learning alongside the Recovery First (R1) Curriculum. This program offers interactive, trauma-informed sessions that focus on things like relapse prevention and emotional regulation.
The use of tablets makes sessions more engaging and personal — clients can journal privately, track goals, and receive real-time feedback. It’s a more flexible, empowering way to participate in group therapy, and since making the switch, Sojourner has seen increased client satisfaction, stronger group retention, and more confident facilitators!

Stories of a Journey - A New Way
In Patient Stories
Sojourner Recovery Services has helped many individuals find their way to lasting recovery. In
our Stories of a Journey series, one client shared his powerful experience.
He recalls overdosing about 15 times and being in and out of hospitals. Eventually, he said, he
became “tired of being sick and tired. Tired of being homeless, tired of not having anything, tired
of being an addict, tired of not having a sense of self.”

Stories of a Journey – Life as a Parent
In Patient Stories
Being a parent takes time and energy, and addiction can completely derail someone’s life. We
interviewed a mother and former client of Sojourner about her experience in recovery. Here’s
what she had to say:
“My life before Sojourner’s was really bad. I was living in a tent and I just wasn’t eating right. I
was doing drugs every single day.”
She described her life before recovery as stressful and exhausting. When she found out she
was pregnant, she knew it was time for real change.
